http://www.kvlive.net/images/stories/feature/wheelerlogo.jpgThe Tour De France is almost over. Lance Armstrong's bid for an 8th Tour victory is gone. That doesn't mean that your passion for cycling has to fade. In the Kanawha Valley area there is a group that shares the same passion for cycling you do and they want you!
The Mountain State Wheelers have been serving the Charleston, West Virginia cycling community since 1975. Who are the Wheelers? They are a group of cycling enthusiasts who meet almost everyday to bike together. They have people of all skill levels. From the recreational biker to the most fit cyclists in the valley. They have numerous different routes that they travel on a weekly basis. In a city such as ours the options are almost endless!
They have a monthly newsletter and some pretty sweet jerseys. Both of which can be found here on the MSW website. They also have a nifty "Save The Turtles" project. To date they have saved at least 154 turtles. I like everything about this group so far! Would I feel the same way after joining them at the University of Charleston for a group ride?
I decided to join them last week for my first group ride and I was nervous because I am new to cycling competitively. All of the Wheelers were very friendly and full of advice for me. I had a blast even though I suffered a flat tire 8 miles into the ride and was unable to continue riding with them. So if you're looking for people to ride with be sure to check out The Mountain State Wheelers' website.
