Live Mix Studios, the performance space located above Gallery Eleven in downtown Charleston, turns into a temporary Honky Tonk on Friday, July 30 for Roots to Boot, a showcase of the region’s premiere singer-songwriters. The "roots" music genre, widely called Americana, is perhaps the fastest growing genre of music and the tri-state area has no shortage of quality contributors: Roots to Boot!

Live Mix Studio is an intimate performance space located on the floor overlooking downtown. Its non-smoking, bring-your-own refreshments atmosphere will serve as a showcase for one of the state’s premiere singer/songwriters and two of this area’s up and coming young stars.

Singer, songwriter and "Goldenseal" editor John Lilly is equally renowned for his timeless interpretations of Hank Williams and Jimmie Rodgers as he is for his own original songs, which feel as if they might’ve been written decades ago. From his witty compositions like "Bigfoot Stole My Baby" to his gospel-influenced "Friday, Sunday’s Comin’," Lilly has delighted audiences in the States and abroad. His latest CD, Live at Red Barn Radio, plays like a greatest-hits live affair, with Lilly’s charming storytelling adorning his bare-bones country performances. "I’m very excited to share the stage with Sasha and Jonathan," Lilly commented, "I think I’m as old as both of them combined! Plus I’ve been on a real songwriting binge lately, so I’m especially looking forward to trotting out some brand new songs."

Eastern Kentucky’s Sasha Colette has a voice as genuine as the air rising from the hollers to the hilltops of her home in Olive Hill. A regular performer at both Taylor Books and the Empty Glass, her music is a sonic middle ground between country darlings new and old, like Gillian Welch and Samantha Crain. Colette has been hard at work crafting a new full-length CD at Trackside Studios near Barboursville, produced and recorded by renowned guitarist Bud Carroll. She released an EP from the sessions, Three Songs, No Waiting, to satisfy the collective appetites of her ever-growing group of followers.

Originally from Sissonville, WV and now living in Louisville, KY, songwriter and guitarist Jonathan Glen Wood is no stranger to performing. He and fiddler Jenny Allinder were favorites among the old-time music circuit and he played guitar in the Mark Bates-fronted group Lonelytown. Wood embraced his inner songwriter after a self-imposed challenge to write a song every day for a week. The results became his digital debut album, Things You Find Out About the People You Love. Earlier this year he released a 7’’ vinyl single of his own song "Further Along" and the old fiddle tune "Elk River Blues." Wood’s style harkens back to the golden era of Country and his songs sound like George Jones or Merle Haggard would’ve recorded them. His voice, as "high-and-lonesome" as they come, is clear and crisp.
