Wouldn't you just like a weekend away? I know for the most part we discuss events in the southern region of West Virginia. What about when you want to head north? You could do it this weekend. Head up to Barbour County this weekend and jump in a 5K. After exhausting yourself you can enjoy all that the Barbour County Fair has to offer.

http://www.kvlive.net/images/stories/feature/2010-08-26/logo.jpgThis weekend is the first real glimpse into the world of high school cross country. You're probably wondering why KVLive decided to cover this non-revenue sport's opening weekend. That is because our very own contributor, John Meadows, is the varsity cross country coach at Capital High School.

This weekend in Beckley is the Charlie Williamson Memorial Triathlon, hosted by Glade Springs. This race is only a short drive away and attracts tri-athletes from all across the east coast. Wouldn't you like to sign up and compete in this memorable event on August 14th? Don't think you handle the whole thing? Then bring some friends and sign up for a team relay instead!

This weekend is the first weekend in August. It is also the first official weekend that cross country starts for area high school students. Why should they get to have all the fun? Use this weekend to start off August with a 5K road race (run or walk) or if you're feeling frisky jump into a 10K. With a race in St. Albans and at Coonskin park on Saturday morning you have some options to choose from.
